Not much time to post this one.
Going to New York in 2 days. Will stay till 13th march and should enjoy some freedom there, because i was working day and night in the last week and when i’m back two big jobs are waiting.
I’ve got a new website too. It’s now “www.severinkoller.com” hope you enjoy it !
now to some photos which i still took in between. first some digital frames for a change because i had my leica serviced for NYC.
i just did the shopping and had some bags with me, so this was more or less guessed from where i had my hands. (5d+35/1.4)
the shopping's final destination was our dinner.
of course having the dslr with me instead of the leica, i'm taking shots like that too. just for the sake of.
in a bus. i don't think these are good streetshots. just studies or observations. i feel uncomfortable to shoot street with that camera.
for a beer
in the car with my aunt and cousin on a sunday going to my grandmother's birhtday.
there was a seat orded. we've got our own "tags".i call it grandmother's philosophy.
mateo my cousin. should be 7yrs old now.
well i took this shot, then mateo was interested, so i handed the camera to him and explained him how to focus.. then let him play. here his photos.
i was just explaining to her that i can make a living from photography. if i had a FAQ, this would be on top.
some more mateo perspectives
he was a bit too close but managed to balance the framing in the end
i didn't see his photos yet.. just thought it's a nice toy for him.. but at home i realized by looking at the photos that he takes better photos than some pros out there.
he even took this photo for chris ;)
then he found a new playground... i was freezing my ass off giving him some company outside.
guess what.. back inside he grabbed the camera once more and made that frame. now these photos should make some people think i guess.
camera back in my hands now. giving the dslr some "street" another try.
maybe this kind of photos i prefer shooing with the dslr.
one last game evening before leaving to NY.
man cleaning in front of his store
do you see it too ?
pretty subtile i know.
wintery
i don't know why. i just decided to take a photo of him and exactly that moment i released, he twitched. not because of me though, he didn't notice at all. some bad news probably..
battlefield
one of tobias' younger students. another new york hint too.
the maestro
the leica service took a week and was 58€ for readjusting. i'm sure that price beats yours! (the mans bag says "a small step for me")
in a bar. i thought i have wasted some frames there.. but this one was good. 1/4th f2.0
not the most easy shot with a rangefinder. always take 2 in such cases.
i burnt my tongue on the espresso there.
quite satisfied with this frame here. everyone seems to be chatting or reading. one man only took notice of me and it's pretty sharp for a 1/8th. could print this one day.
well. it's true. i've never been to new york. but this will change in 2 days!
self in my living room.
i was a bit sloppy on these two.. but the weather was too good to shoot tri-x so i just wanted to finish quickly.
here the px frames
i metered for the sky on purpose. i thought the woman's hair has something in common.
next sunday. next birthday. my younger aunt's one. i told my cousin that it's not always him who's being photographed. little poser!
a tribute to charlie bit me ?
again i had to explain that i can make a living from what i do. it's good to have a website working in the iphone too.
father and son
my father's present. a picture of my aunt and me, taken about 18yrs ago. a black and white one.
mateo wanted to take photos again but it's a bit difficult to shoot manually because his hands are much too small. i set up the camera, he took this frame.
i can't help it. that little series makes me think of weddography.
mateo asked what i can focus on. he was most amazed when i told him to goes to infinity. yes, i can focus on the moon !
on the way to the darkroom. a woman throwing a stick for her dog.
before leaving met my father outside.
by accident i found a place that was full of pigeons, dead ones included and shit all over the place. maybe i'm taking photos there one day but it was too dark to shoot the plus-x there.
and i saw elivs ! i wonder when the first "jacko's alive" reports will be published.
i think it was robert capa who said that if your photos aren't good enough, you're not close enough. correct me if i'm quoting the wrong guy!
i agree, but if you're not close enough, you gotta need a genius composition. i think i managed here. yeah that sounds a bit bigheaded i know.. but that frame is just perfect imo.
i first didn't like the idea of having eye contact.. but i like it now.
Your new website is beautiful and simple, I like it.
Comment by Ali — February 24, 2010 @ 5:41 pmBy the way, it’s nice to see colored frames here, even if I appreciate your b&w ones ;)
love the design of the new site. simple, bold. nice layout too.
Comment by dvdherron — February 24, 2010 @ 5:58 pmoh, and it looks like you may have a protégé in mateo. how old is he?

Comment by Drone — February 24, 2010 @ 6:53 pmDefinitely Mateo has a good eye for photos, and yes! he’s better than a lot of people calling themselves “Pros”
Comment by Aldo — February 24, 2010 @ 7:22 pmMensch Severin, diese Post hat mir wieder gut gefallen. Ich mag die Atmospäre, die aus Deinen Bildern herauskommt. I hope while you are here you are working on a NYC gallery opening and that more details are coming soon.

Comment by Ella — March 3, 2010 @ 5:20 amI’m some kind of freak with the old-fashioned photography, and i clearly see some kind of it in your work. You should be proud of yourself, have so much talent to portray life !

Comment by nana — March 8, 2010 @ 10:31 amI spoke to you Sunday in Central Park near the Band Shell.
I’m the guy who has two twin lens reflexes.
Your black and white work is most impressive. The visual substance of most of the world is black and white. Your color work is also impressive.
I’ve got to get out and shoot some black and white.
Check out my website.

Comment by simon — March 16, 2010 @ 5:37 pmI specially liked the one with the man reading the newspaper and making a funy face and also the one with everyone sat down in the theater or something.
Still didn’t get the “subtile” one with the man on black and his hat…
Cheers!
